The static CPT (Cone Penetration Test) (mechanical type) essentially consists of measuring the resistance to penetration of a mechanical cone (Begemann) with standardized dimensions and characteristics, driven into the ground at a constant speed (2 cm/sec).
In tests with the Begemann mechanical cone, the values of Qc (tip resistance), Fs (lateral friction), and Qt (total resistance) are measured by means of a load cell placed on the surface penetrometer.
